SHORT FILM

new official Junior Poster .png

This project is a mirror of my personal struggles as an artist. I wrote this script through the pain and confusion of my life experience as a filmmaker. It's a reflection of many creatives within the industry who are afraid or not comfortable to speak on their trials and tribulations as yet. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Being a man growing up showing a sign of sadness was considered a weakness, so I hid it for years until I became very suicidal. My junior year of college I was in and out of the hospital and counseling for months because of my mental health, which involved anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. But through all of this, I still manage to keep a smile plastered on my face to uphold my outside appearance. After graduating from college in May 2018 with my bachelors in cinema, I found that I was lost in my thoughts and lacking motivation from all angles. From there, I fell into chronic depression leaving me lost within my life and then beginning to question my existence again. I later found out that I was experiencing post-grad depression, which is a very common thing that many young adults encounter. Let’s spread awareness through creative work and make a positive impact.

EARLY 2000's INSPIRED

In the Early 2,000s and back, mental health was a taboo topic to speak on. It wasn't a social norm to express your feelings and reflect on your trauma. It was socially normal to shovel things on the rug and keep it pushing. “Suicide is the leading cause of death and has been on a rise since 1999” accroding to the National Insisitue Of Mental Health. The Film “Junior” takes place in the year 2005 and is visually inspired by early 2,000 film classics like, “ATL”, “Love Don't Cost A Thing” and “Roll Bounce”
